Zonta Central Coast will hold its Bi-annual Birthing Kit Packing Day on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025 at Central Coast Grammar School, Erina Heights, NSW. 2250.
Birthing Kits are a simple, low-cost tool designed to create a clean birth environment for women in underprivileged areas. The main focus for the distribution of these birthing kits is the African nations of Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Every two minutes, somewhere in the world, a pregnant or birthing
women die of preventable causes.
Birthing Kits are provided to mothers through community outreach programs, supplied to health facilities for use by doctors, midwives, and nurses or distributed to traditional birthing attendants. They are designed to support hygienic practices and environments during childbirth in under-resourced settings.
Zonta Central Coast organises Birthing Kit packing days every 2 years with the assistance of the Zonta Central Coast members and local community involvement.
Each kit contains six essential items - soap, gloves, a plastic sheet, sterile blade, gauze, and cord ties - that help reduce the risk of infection of mothers, babies, and birth attendants.
Infections are one of the leading causes of maternal and
newborn deaths in developing countries.
The cost of these birthing kits is AU$5. If you would like to donate the cost of a birthing kit DONATE HERE.
Zonta Central Coast aims to pack 2,400 kits on the day, with the help of over 50 members and local volunteers. Community participation is what makes this day a great success.
The event is held in conjunction with BIRTHING KIT FOUNDATION AUSTRALIA and the kind donation of the room to pack them at Central Coast Grammar School at Erina Heights, Central Coast, NSW.
