16 Days Of Activism 25th November to 10th December. WORLDWIDE

As we move through November, I want to draw your attention to a crucial global initiative in which we also have a meaningful role here at home: the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

This annual WORLDWIDE campaign runs from:-

25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women)

…………… through to  10 December (Human Rights Day).

Globally, this campaign has become a rallying point for governments, civil society organisations, community groups and individuals to raise awareness, call for action, and demand accountability for gender-based violence. For example:

  • The campaign began in 1991 through the Centre for Women’s Global Leadership and has since involved thousands of organisations across nearly every country.

  • It frames violence against women and girls as a violation of human rights—not just a social problem.

  • Recent themes have emphasised new and pressing forms of harm, such as digital violence. For 2025 the theme is:-

  •

“UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.”

Why does this matter for us, here on the Central Coast? Because while we’re part of a global movement, (Zonta Central Coast is part of Zonta International) the change begins at the local level.

When women and girls feel safe, valued and empowered in our community:

  • We strengthen the capacity of all our citizens to thrive.

  • We create a culture of respect and equality that benefits not just women and girls, but everyone.

  • We reinforce the message that violence is never acceptable—and that each of us has a part to play in ending it.

I urge each of you to mark your calendars for these 16 days. Below is a list of local events.

Consider how you might take part: attend local events, raise awareness within your network, support organisations on the frontline, or simply reflect and talk about how we can all help create safer communities.

Together, as the Zonta Club of Central Coast, we can amplify the message that violence against women and girls is never inevitable, and that when we act—locally and globally—we make tangible change.
